Official Summary:

Published in 1949, George. Orwell’s 1984 is
One of the most definitive texts of modern literature.

Set in Oceania, one of the three inter-continental superstates that divided the world among themselves after a global war, Orwell’s masterful critique of the political structure of the time, works itself out through the story of Winston Smith, a man caught in the webs of a dystopian future, and his clandestine love affair with Julia, a young woman he meets during the course of work for the government.

As much as it is an entertaining read, 1984 is also a

Brilliant, more importantly, a timeless satirical attack on the social and political structures of the world.

Summary on the back cover of the novel.
The party’s slogan.

Critics Reviews:

Goodreads: 4.2 stars.

Common sense media: 5.0 stars.

The most famous quote of 1984.

My Summary:

Winston, a man who works for the government is stuck between his thoughts and dreams that compel him to start writing a diary against the party’s rules. Soon he’s loyalty towards the party is put to test when he has to choose between the party’s rule to avoid women and his love, Julia. In the course of the events, Winston’s thoughts turn him into a rebel and he joins the opposers of the government. The decisions were made, the damage was done. Now it was time for the party to react. The only problem was that there was no forgiveness for thoughtcrime.

The truth said in the most bitter way.

My Review:

A must-read and totally recommended novel. 😍

This novel is a slam on all the political leaders’ faces. George Orwell clearly shows them that he knows what they are up to and he knows how to fight them. An amazing novel with a tinge of romance. A great political satire. The flow is so smooth and clean. The reason why it was banned is clearly shown in the novel.

My favourite part started with the 3rd part. Can’t give away the suspense but those people that have read will know. Basically, there are 3 parts with minimum 5 chapters maximum 10. It is a great read.

If you haven’t read it, I am sorry, I feel extreme pity for you because it is a…

A MUST-READ.

  1. 1984 is a seminal book, and so prescient about modern society. Everything from targeted advertising, CCTV surveillance, and suppression of free thinking. It’s all in there. Orwell had a vision of the future that has never been closer to coming true than today; with fake news, disinformation, and banning of books.
I am so pleased that someone as young as you can relate to this, Suzan. The new generation should read this famous novel, and take heed of the warning it sends.
If you enjoyed this, you would probably equally enjoy this other famous book, set in a near future that is all too plausible.
(There are also excellent film adaptations of both books.)

In the same genre, this book by Margaret Attwood is also outstanding.
